SBR Sponge Gaskets

As a component of our diverse custom sponge and foam gaskets and seals product offerings, A.J. Rubber & Sponge Ltd. fabricates SBR sponge gaskets for use in a variety of applications such as the manufacturing of pneumatic tubes and tires, footwear soles and heels, and other industrial and commercial uses. SBR (styrene butadiene rubber) is an elastomeric co-polymer that is made up of a combination of butadiene and styrene. SBR is also commonly known as GRS, buna-S or buna S in the cellular rubber products industry. Our SBR sponge gaskets offer many beneficial characteristics:

  • Superior abrasion resistance
  • Stable over a range of environments
  • Resistant to minerals, fats, synthetic and natural oils, and chlorinated, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Recommended temperature range of -40°C to 100°C (-40°F to +212 °F)
  • Elongation percentage of between 450–500%)
  • Transitions into glass at a temperature of approximately -55°C (131°F)

In spite of the versatility of our SBR sponge gaskets, they are not very resistant to sunlight, ozone, rain or other weather elements, and are not recommended for any type of electrical application.
